Excel download is an editable text worksheet, not an automatic payroll or tax calculator. What each part means
Named tenant share
State which person’s actual payment the landlord is acknowledging. In this example the acknowledged amount is INR 15,000, while INR 30,000 appears only as the whole-flat monthly rent.
Payment route
Describe whether the named tenant paid the landlord directly or reimbursed a co-tenant. Replace the sample if the payment route differs; a transfer to a roommate is not automatically a landlord acknowledgement.
Agreement support
Use the actual agreed share and occupancy period. An equal split is merely the fictional case, and the landlord’s confirmation should be consistent with the tenancy record and the payment received.
Acknowledging one tenant share within a jointly rented flat
Two people sharing a flat should be able to tell whether a receipt acknowledges the entire rent or only one person’s share. This version names the tenant whose payment is being acknowledged and keeps the whole-flat rent as context. It suits a landlord who accepts separate payments from co-tenants. It should follow the actual tenancy and payment arrangement; a tenant should not divide a landlord’s receipt without confirmation.
How the filled example works
The fictional whole-flat rent is INR 30,000. Ananya and Sameer have an agreed INR 15,000 share each, but this receipt acknowledges only Ananya’s INR 15,000 transfer. The reference belongs to that transfer, and the other tenant’s share remains outside the receipt. The layout prevents Ananya’s payment from being shown as INR 30,000 or Sameer’s payment from being implied without evidence.
Prepare the supporting record
Review the rental agreement and the actual share arrangement before drafting. Confirm whether both people are named tenants, whether one person pays the landlord for everyone, or whether one tenant repays another. Those are different payment trails. If the landlord received a single combined payment, ask for an accurate acknowledgement of that combined arrangement instead of representing two separate transfers that did not happen.
Resolve this scenario before issuing
Keep the same month, property and share amounts across related records. A change in occupancy halfway through the month can require a different allocation that both tenants and landlord need to agree. Do not copy an equal split simply because there are two tenants; the actual arrangement may depend on room use or another agreed basis. Keep personal bank and identity information limited to what the recipient needs.
How to edit and share the document
Edit the Word file to describe the real named tenant and payment route, and have the landlord confirm that share. Excel is a worksheet for the identified amount rather than a calculator deciding everyone’s entitlement. Check the PDF after editing to ensure the whole-flat context is visibly distinct from the amount received. Keep any co-tenant reimbursement record separately and avoid counting the same rent payment in multiple inconsistent acknowledgements.
What a payment receipt establishes
Use a receipt after confirming the payment. Its strongest details are the parties, the complete rented-property address, the period covered, the amount received, the receipt date and a traceable payment reference. Keep refundable deposits, utility reimbursements and overdue balances identifiable. Ask the intended recipient which supporting documents it needs. This template does not decide tax relief or replace the rental agreement, landlord confirmation or payment evidence.
Review this scenario
- Check who is named in the actual tenancy.
- Confirm the share arrangement for the stated period.
- Acknowledge only the amount actually received for this tenant.
- Keep whole-flat rent distinct from the received share.
- Use the reference for the correct transfer.
- Ask the landlord to confirm the final acknowledgement.
Questions about this format
Must shared rent be divided equally?
This template does not decide the split. The fictional two-person example uses equal shares, but the actual tenants and landlord may have another agreed arrangement. Enter the supported share and the correct rental period.
What if one tenant sends all the rent?
Use a receipt describing the actual combined payment and named tenancy. Separate co-tenant reimbursement records can explain how the payer collected shares, but do not describe those repayments as separate landlord receipts unless the landlord actually received them.
Check before you use it
A rent receipt records money actually received. Obtain landlord confirmation; a draft, an advance schedule and a refundable-deposit acknowledgement have different purposes.
- Replace every sample or bracketed field with accurate information.
- Check dates, amounts, identifiers and the intended recipient’s requirements.
- Open the exported file and obtain any required employer, landlord or legal approval.
