A cash payment has no ordinary bank-transfer reference, so a clear landlord acknowledgement is especially useful. This format records who handed over the money, who received it, the amount and the rental period. It is intended for an actual cash payment, not for generating receipts for months that have not been paid. The landlord should review and confirm the completed record at the time of collection or through the agreed process.

How the filled example works

Farhan’s fictional September rent is INR 9,500. The sample acknowledges that exact amount in both figures and words and records no outstanding rent for the period. It excludes the security deposit, so the receipt does not accidentally acknowledge a deposit as monthly rent. The collection date is 3 September, while the covered rental period is the whole September month.

Prepare the supporting record

Have the actual tenancy details, agreed rent amount and collection date ready. Confirm whether an authorised agent collected the cash for the landlord and, if so, identify the collector and authority accurately. Keep a tenant copy after confirmation. If the landlord maintains numbered duplicate receipts, align this document’s number with that record rather than introducing a conflicting receipt series.

Resolve this scenario before issuing

Check figures and words independently. Changing INR 9,500 to INR 10,000 without changing the words creates an avoidable discrepancy. If the amount is a partial payment, acknowledge only the cash received and show the outstanding balance. Avoid issuing another receipt for the same cash solely because the tenant later requests a clearer copy; identify it as a copy or corrected record to prevent duplicate acknowledgements.
