Compress Images for Web and Messaging
Choose the image’s final use before changing quality. A small message preview, website card, product zoom, and print file need different dimensions and compression settings.
The browser decodes the selected JPG, PNG, or WebP and creates a new WebP copy. The source image is not uploaded to an OpenToolSuite processing queue, and the original file is not overwritten.
Set a maximum edge close to the largest display size you actually need. Reducing dimensions often saves more space than aggressively lowering quality. Transparent artwork and fine text deserve extra inspection.
Compare the reported input and output sizes, then view the copy at 100% and at its intended screen size. Already optimized images may become similar in size or even larger after re-encoding.
Keep the original for printing, future editing, evidence, or archival use. Compression can remove detail and format conversion can affect compatibility.
