Publish a stable favicon path
| Check | Example | Expected outcome |
|---|---|---|
| URL | /favicon-96.png | Returns a square PNG |
| Page head | rel="icon" with the stable URL | Home page references the icon |
| Crawling | Home and icon are crawlable | No robots block |
| Appearance | Inspect at small sizes | Brand remains recognizable |
Google’s guidance requires a square icon of at least 8 by 8 pixels and recommends a size larger than 48 by 48 pixels. A stable 96-pixel icon is one practical choice. Eligibility does not guarantee display. Repeatedly changing the filename does not speed up processing; check the live URL and allow recrawling.
How to use Favicon Generator with a clear next step.
Drop a square PNG, JPG, or WebP logo, generate the size pack, and inspect the 48 px copy Google Search requires. Download the ZIP with PNG files, an ICO, and a head snippet, then publish the files on your site and request indexing.
Choose a simple square source mark that remains recognisable when reduced. Fine text, thin lines and a detailed full logo can disappear at small favicon sizes, so inspect the generated images instead of judging only the source. Extract the ZIP and check the expected PNG and ICO files before adding the supplied HTML snippet to the site head. Use public, stable paths and verify that those paths return the intended images without an authentication wall or robots block. A browser may cache an older icon, so compare the live response and test a fresh session before regenerating the pack. Search display depends on the search engine’s rules and processing, not merely the existence of a 96-pixel image. Keep the icon consistent with the site’s visible identity. This tool creates local assets and markup; it does not deploy files, recrawl a site or guarantee that a favicon will appear in search results.
Each size is redrawn on a local canvas. The ICO embeds the 16, 32, and 48 px PNGs. Google Search documentation asks for a square PNG of at least 48 px; recrawl after you publish can take days or weeks.
Package 16 through 512 px icons plus an ICO in one ZIP.
Copy a head snippet without buying an icon kit.
