Work through the OCR PDF controls in order, then review the result before choosing your next action.
Select a PDF within the eight-page and 15 MB limits.
Wait for recognition and compare the text preview with the page image.
Download and test Search or Copy text in your PDF reader.
Verify an OCR result with a known phrase
| Check | Example | Expected outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Source text | Sample invoice 1234.56 | Same words and decimal in preview |
| Search in PDF reader | 1234.56 | Reader finds the text layer |
| Copy a line | Sample invoice 1234.56 | Copied text matches the scan |
A searchable file can still contain recognition mistakes such as O versus 0 or a lost decimal point. The tool checks for extractable text, not financial or spelling accuracy. If recognition is empty, improve contrast, straighten the source or use a clearer scan. English engine assets download from this site before local recognition begins.
How to use OCR PDF with a clear next step.
Choose a scanned English PDF under 15 MB and no more than eight pages. Wait for the recognition engine and English model to load from OpenToolSuite, then keep the tab open while each page is read. Compare the text preview against the scan, especially account numbers, names, decimal points and dates. Download only after those checks.
Straight, sharp English print is the supported input. Skewed pages, handwriting, stamps, very small print and non-English scripts may fail. Some characters cannot be written by the current PDF font. If no searchable words can be written, the tool reports a failure instead of offering an image-only file as searchable. Use a sharp, upright English scan and verify a short phrase with a known number before trusting the whole result. A synthetic line such as “Sample invoice 1234.56” is useful because a lost decimal point or confused digit is easy to spot. Search for that value in the downloaded PDF and copy the line into a text editor; both checks should be compared with the visible scan. A verified text layer can still contain incorrect words, so review every value relevant to a decision. If recognition is empty or poor, improve contrast and alignment in the source rather than treating a searchable-file label as an accuracy guarantee. The engine and language assets must load before local processing; keep the tab open while it works. Stay within the eight-page and 15 MB limits, and split a longer source if appropriate. Handwriting and non-English scripts are outside the supported English-print workflow.
The browser renders the scan and recognizes words with Tesseract. Word bounding boxes are converted to PDF coordinates, then an invisible text layer is placed beneath the page image. The generated file is reopened and checked for extractable text before it is offered as a searchable PDF. This confirms a text layer exists; it does not prove the words are accurate.
Extract searchable English print from a scanned certificate.
Prepare a scanned table for manual review before spreadsheet extraction.
OCR PDF FAQ
Is my scan uploaded for recognition?
No. The PDF stays in this browser. Recognition code and the English model load from OpenToolSuite’s own origin.
Does verified searchable text mean verified accuracy?
No. The output check confirms that text can be extracted. Compare the actual words and numbers with the scan yourself.
Does this read handwriting or Hindi?
English print is supported. Handwriting, non-English scripts, complex layouts and faint scans may produce incomplete or incorrect text.
