Work through the Diff Checker & Code Compare controls in order, then review the result before choosing your next action.
Paste the earlier text in Original and the revised text in Modified.
Compare the result with the worked example and your original input.
Export only after checking the stated limits and the destination requirements.
Compare a changed config value
| Line | Original | Modified |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | name=demo | name=demo |
| 2 | timeout=30 | timeout=45 |
Expected result: two leading spaces before name=demo, then − timeout=30 and + timeout=45 on separate lines. This TXT is not an executable patch. If a line is inserted at the top, later lines are compared at shifted positions.
How to use Diff Checker & Code Compare with a clear next step.
Paste the earlier text in Original and the revised text in Modified. The result updates by line position. Use the example to see an unchanged line and a replaced value, then copy or download the plain-text comparison after reviewing it against both inputs.
This diff checker compares pasted text, code, JSON or Markdown as text. It does not parse a programming language, validate JSON, detect plagiarism or find the smallest edit sequence. Inserting a line near the top can mark many later lines because their positions shift. The downloaded TXT is a review record, not a patch you can apply with git. Format both JSON inputs consistently in the JSON formatter first if indentation noise is obscuring a value change, and retain the originals. Compare two versions that use the same line structure when you want changes to stand out. If Original contains three lines and Modified inserts a new heading at the top, the positional comparison can mark later lines even when their text merely moved down. This is expected for this workflow, not evidence that every later sentence was rewritten. For JSON or code with different indentation, format both copies consistently first if doing so will not change meaningful whitespace. Inspect each plus and minus line against the corresponding sources before describing a change to someone else. Accents, letter case and punctuation remain significant, while ordinary CRLF and LF differences are normalised. If the comparison appears empty, verify that both text boxes contain the intended versions. Keep those originals alongside the downloaded TXT. The output is a readable review record and should not be passed to git as an executable patch.
Line one is compared with line one, line two with line two, and so on. Equal lines start with two spaces. A removed original line starts with − and an added modified line with +. Windows CRLF and Unix LF line endings are normalised; spaces within lines, accents, letter case and punctuation remain significant.
Review wording changes between two Markdown drafts without sending the text to a comparison service.
Check whether a trailing space is the reason two visibly similar lines are reported as different.
Diff Checker & Code Compare FAQ
Why are many lines different after I add one line?
This is a positional comparison. Inserting a line shifts later positions; the tool does not align moved blocks or compute a minimal diff.
Can I apply the downloaded diff as a Git patch?
No. The TXT contains labelled comparison lines without executable patch structure. Use your version-control diff and tests for a code change.
Does it ignore spaces or letter case?
No. Both affect comparison. CRLF and LF line endings are normalised, but a trailing space still changes a line.
Can it prove two programs do the same thing?
No. It compares text and does not run, parse or test code. Equal text alone is not a safety or correctness review.
Are the pasted versions uploaded?
The line comparison and TXT creation run in this browser session. The tool does not connect to a repository or database.
