The before/after report covers common PDF document properties, with standard XMP removed during rewriting. It does not promise that attachments, annotations or visible page text contain no identifying information. Open the copy in another reader and inspect its properties as a second check. Keep signed originals because editing changes signed bytes.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to use Private PDF Metadata Remover with a clear next step.

Choose up to ten unlocked PDFs, each under 25 MB, and run Clear and verify metadata. The result table shows title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and dates before and after processing. Review the report, then download separate copies or the batch ZIP. Keep your original PDFs until you have opened and inspected the cleaned copies.

Metadata can also appear in attached files, image payloads, annotations or visible text. Clearing document properties does not guarantee anonymity or redact the document. Review those separately when sharing sensitive material. Modifying a signed PDF changes the signed bytes and invalidates existing digital signatures. Inspect the source properties before cleanup so you know what changed. A fictional PDF might list an author, title and creation date; after processing, check those common fields in a PDF reader and compare the page count and visible content with the original. An author name printed in a footer remains visible because it is part of the page, so use an appropriate content-removal workflow if that text should be excluded. Embedded attachments, unusual identifiers and application-specific objects deserve separate scrutiny when the context is sensitive. Existing digital signatures will no longer validate after a rewritten copy, which matters if authenticity evidence must be preserved. If the tool reports failure or the result cannot be reopened, keep the original and do not treat the attempted cleanup as proof. Give the output a new filename that distinguishes it from the signed or source document. This workflow checks standard properties, not every forensic trace.

HOW THE RESULT WORKS

The browser removes the PDF document-information dictionary and standard XMP metadata references and streams. It saves a new copy, reopens it with metadata auto-generation disabled and checks that the common document properties are empty. A visible author name printed on a page is page content and is not removed by this workflow.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Private PDF Metadata Remover FAQ

What does the before/after table prove?

It shows the common document properties read before cleaning and after reopening the saved copy. It does not inspect every attached file or identifier inside the PDF.

Will the author name disappear from the page?

No. Visible text requires redaction. Use PDF Redactor and inspect the result when page content must be removed.

Can I clean multiple documents?

Yes. Process up to ten unlocked PDFs under 25 MB each, then download individual files or one ZIP.
