Executed test: INR invoice arithmetic and draft fields
This is a test of the current OpenToolSuite invoice engine, executed on 29 September 2026. It is not a measured Canva performance or tax-calculation comparison.

What a useful invoice comparison should check
For an invoice, the first question is whether the numbers and business fields survive the workflow. A polished layout can still contain the wrong buyer, date, tax treatment or total. Our test separates arithmetic from presentation: the table above records executed calculation cases, while the feature table describes the editing and export choices. We have not run those same arithmetic cases inside Canva.
The OpenToolSuite cases use fictional values and no customer information. One line has quantity two, unit price INR 5,000 and an entered rate of 18%. Changing the treatment moves INR 1,800 between a two-part split and the integrated-tax column without changing the INR 11,800 total. A separate mixed-rate case checks the interaction of a discount, an additional line and entered cess. Invalid discounts are rejected instead of silently making a negative taxable base.
When the local invoice editor fits
Choose the India editor when you want visible supplier and buyer fields, HSN or SAC entries, a place-of-supply field, and an explicit tax-treatment selector before export. Fill those from verified business records; the tool does not identify the applicable rate or check a GST registration against official records. The document preview lets you change among three visual themes and add your own company identity. Download Word if the recipient needs editable text. Choose PDF when a fixed visual copy is useful, while remembering that these PDF pages are images. The available Excel worksheet contains editable text; it is not an accounting workbook with automatic formulas.
When a design editor fits
Canva’s invoice page emphasizes visual templates and design customization. That can fit a workflow in which someone already owns the checked invoice data and wants to arrange it in a particular brand style. Its listed export and sharing options are useful differences to consider alongside the local editor’s structured fields. These are documented product features, not evidence that every template calculates taxes or includes the required details.
Before choosing, decide whether your next person needs a visual PDF, an editable Word document, an image or a hosted sharing link. Those outputs solve different handoff problems. Do not choose only from a thumbnail, and do not assume that a file called an invoice has been approved by the seller or reviewed for the transaction.
Review the actual exported invoice
Open the finished file and match every line to the agreed work: description, quantity, unit amount, discount, entered tax and final total. Check identifiers, addresses, invoice number and dates separately from arithmetic. Inspect page breaks and long descriptions, and ensure the payment instructions belong to the intended recipient. This editor neither collects money nor sends the invoice; your own approval and delivery process still applies.
Which workflow fits?
Canva is useful when design customisation is the priority. OpenToolSuite’s local editor is useful when you want explicit business fields and local document generation. Neither a visual design nor this draft replaces a tax, legal or accounting review.
