Compress a PDF under 200 KB and check readability

Select a short unlocked PDF and choose a 100, 200 or 500 KB cap, or enter a custom value from 20 to 2048 KB. The tool first tries a compact PDF copy. If that is still too large, it tries page images at different resolutions and JPEG qualities. Inspect the reported byte size and open the first-page preview before downloading.

This tool uses 1 KB = 1024 bytes. Compact mode preserves PDF text; flattened mode recreates pages as JPEG images and loses selectable text, links and form fields. A file is offered only when a trial fits the chosen cap. The result retains the cap used for that run so changing controls cannot relabel an earlier result.

A 200 KB cap here means 204,800 bytes. A portal using decimal KB might require fewer than 200,000 bytes, so a lower cap such as 190 KB leaves room. Compression cannot guarantee that a long or detailed scan will remain readable within a tiny limit. Check small numbers at full size and split the document when the required cap destroys detail.

Start from the original each time you try a new cap. Repeatedly flattening an already compressed copy can lose detail without a useful further size reduction. A sharp source scan at reasonable dimensions generally provides more room to compress than a noisy photograph.

Open the downloaded PDF in the reader you will use for review. Inspect signatures, small print and fine lines on every page. If the cap can only be reached with unreadable content, reduce the number of pages or obtain a clearer source.

The smaller cap is an illustrative buffer, not a promise that a portal will accept the document. A form may also restrict page count, dimensions, encryption or format. If a readable copy cannot fit, split the source or improve the scan rather than repeatedly compressing an already damaged output.
